The Bronx and a Yankees Game

 B there--

I spent five days in New York in June and had the best time! The first day started in Little Italy in the Bronx and ended at Yankee Stadium for the second game in a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox. It was quite a day!

Scenes from an Italian neighborhood.

A Little Caesar's in Little Italy, the Bronx? It's gotta be a front!

Two mini cannoli and the perfect mocha latte al fresco at DeLillo Pastry Shop on E. 187th.

Mary Anne has lived in the neighborhood all her life and she is only 82 years old! When she found out my name, we sang the chorus of Paul Anka's Diana together. She had something very colorful to say about the grocer who priced his grapes at $4.99 a pound, when she was able to buy them for $1.99 down the street. Oohfah! I want her to adopt me!

Arthur Avenue, the Bronx

Possibly my favorite street scene in the Bronx. It's a tie with the gentleman below, who is clearly happy brushing his feisty Siamese kitten.
Teitel Brothers Grocery on Arthur Avenue, established in 1915 is in its third generation of family owners/operators. After visiting the store for myself, I am not at all surprised that they have been there for 110 years. Friendly, prompt, and don't even get me started on the quality! I am just salivating thinking about the samples lavished upon me. The olives, peppers, sun dried tomatoes and giardiniera were so tasty!

Teitel Brothers and the Arthur Avenue Retail Market is how I want to shop everyday!
Portrait of  Audacity- A Boston Red Sox T-shirt, in the Bronx on game day when the Yankees are playing the Sox, while adding a little kick to his cappuccino. ZFG! Aside from that he was quite hospitable.

How Do You Get To Yankee Stadium...

...baptized by the Bronx rain while riding a Citi Bike from E 188th Street and Hughes Avenue, to Jerome Avenue and Kingsbridge Road (roughly 25 city blocks) to catch the subway to Yankee Stadium in a torrential downpour!
"Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes it rains."
Rain puddles on Heritage Field reflecting Yankee Stadium in the background. The downpour from earlier let up and made the evening with the Yankees even better.
Sabretts under the subway platform on River Street by Yankee Stadium.
Get there early if you want a table on game day because it is totally worth it!
Hard-pressed to say what my favorite thing was about this trip to New York,
but getting a table early and watching Stan's go from the one Red Sox and one Yankee fan
sharing a table to the place being at capacity is in the top three!
Stan's had the best classic rock playlist for getting fans revved up for the Saturday night match-up!
Corner table on the sidewalk at Stan's!

Who wouldn't be smiling pulling game day detail on the streets around Yankee Stadium! So happy I had my Yankees cap on during the earlier downpour, or this could have been way worse! Also, beer and book-ended by Reno 911 and Super Trooper helped.

Yankee fan photo-bombing Officer Fabulous!

Huge compared to the one that used to be at Heritage Field, but still, it's the House that Ruth built.
It was such a great day. Too bad the Bronx Bombers couldn't have played better against
their long-time rivals.
Oh, well! Whaddya gonna do, huh?
