Across 22 states, over 20,000 barns were painted as their advertising campaign in the 1890s. Barn owners would be paid to advertise and welcomed the life extending coat of paint. The campaign was so popular other brands followed in their footsteps. Barn ghost signs became protected landmarks in 1974. |
